Eating His Flesh and Drinking His Blood

April 6, 2025 Speaker: Jonathan McLeod Series: The Gospel of John

Scripture: John 6:41–59

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten?

Maybe it was something you ate on a dare, maybe something mislabeled in the fridge, or maybe a dish you tried at the church potluck.

Now imagine this: You’re at the synagogue in Capernaum, listening to Jesus, and he says something very hard to swallow: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.”

Eat his flesh? Drink his blood?

Two questions:

  1. What does it mean to eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus?
  2. Does this have anything to do with the Lord’s Supper?
