In verse 27, the disciples have come back from buying food in town, and they’re shocked to see Jesus talking with a woman. They have two questions, though they never actually say the questions out loud. They want to ask the Samaritan woman, “What do you seek?” And they want to ask Jesus, “Why are you talking with her?”

What was the woman at the well seeking? Deep down, she was seeking something that would truly satisfy.

Why did Jesus talk with her? He talked with her because he cared about her and could offer her what she needed most.
