Jesus Must Increase

Topic: Humility Scripture: John 3:22–36
At the end of John 3, the disciples of John the Baptist are concerned because John is losing influence, while Jesus is gaining influence. It sounds like they want John to be more competitive. But John tells them, “[Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease” (v. 30). He was never going to compete against Jesus.
Do we ever compete against Jesus? Our instant response is going to be, “No, of course not!” But I think it’s quite common for Christians to compete against Jesus. When our Christianity becomes all about us, we’re competing against Jesus.
